5Very Good Choice!
By B. Banks
Let me start by advising anyone who is considering this to NOT TO BE STICKER SHOCKED. The system appears pricey, but in reality, it is not. You are paying for the system free and clear. It belongs to you, not the alarm company. If you move, you can move the system with you. You aren't stuck paying for a system on a monthly basis for 3, 4 or 5 years that is lumped into your monitoring plan.

The monitoring provider I choose to go through was Safemart. They did not pressure me into purchasing equipment I did not need and was always available whether it was through email, live Web chat or by phone. They have several different plans to meet anyone's needs (even their highest plan kicks other alarm companies in the backside)! Customer service is above and beyond anything I have experienced. They were always available for any question or concerns I had. A bonus with this company is that their pricing information is on the website, which eliminates you having to fill out an inquiry form only to be harassed from here to eternity

The pricing for monthly monitoring is very reasonable. It is truly a great deal and they don't force you into 3, 4, 5 or 6 years.

Set up is painless. Took me less than 45 minutes to set up my entire house.

I love the fact that you can arm the system from the panel, A keychain remote, an Android or iPhone app or through the computer.I am also loving the fact that I receive push notices and/or emails sent that tell me who has armed or disarmed the system. (Please remember that these features are available from Safemart. I can not speak on what features are available from other companies.)

I am very pleased.

4Make sure you get this from a good company
By Jonathan Birge
When I first got this system, there was a problem with the cell card, such that the crucial comm link to the cell towers kept going down, despite me being in a solid three bar area. Fortunately, I had the good luck to have bought my system through SafeMart, and they have kept their word about making customer service a differentiator. They sent me out a new system with a new card, preprogrammed, and were very proactive about calling me and making sure they got things working. They also tuned my system remotely. I don't exactly know what they did, but the bottom line is that I haven't had any significant trouble since.

The system itself is great. It's remarkable what it can do, given that I installed and manage the thing myself. I have about 36 sensors: all my first floor and basement windows and doors, four motion detectors, water and freeze sensors, and fire/CO everywhere. I've already had an experience where the system paid for itself; we had a tree penetrate and block our sewer line under the house, and it caused water to back up in the basement from a shower. The water sensor caught it when it was just a cm or so of water in the corner, and sounded the alarm system. Were it not for this, we'd have been running water all day and not noticed. Thanks to the system, we stopped using all water and there was zero damage to our stuff.

The integration of the alarm functionality with the home automation is another huge benefit of this system. For example, we have Z-wave automated locks. When I arm the system at night, all the doors in my house automatically lock. If I type in a user code in any of the door locks from the outside I have the system set to (a) unlock the door, of course then (b) disarm the alarm and then (c) light up the area of the door in question. This is pretty impressive level of automation from a system of its cost.

I think alarm.com has a fundamentally great technology with a great future. However, it's not always perfect yet, as my frustrating experience with the comm issues proved. I've also had difficulties at times dealing with Z wave devices and the alarm.com card. Because of that, it's crucially important that you buy this system from a company that will stand behind it. To that end I can recommend SafeMart/LiveWatch without reservation. I've heard good things from other companies as well, so I'm not criticizing them, just giving my experience with SafeMart.

Would I buy this system again? Well, if you asked me during the worst of the trouble I was having, I'd have said no. Now, I'd say absolutely yes. I think you do lose a bit of reliability when going with a system that only has a cell connection (as opposed to both cell and telephone), but I can't think of an affordable way to get a system that does both, and yet which has the remarkable power and flexibility of this one, nor the ability to install and manage yourself. For a household, I think this is the way to go, and I spent a ridiculous amount of time looking at other systems.

What's satisfying about this system is knowing that if something happens when I'm away and can't be reached, the right people will be on their way before I even know about the problem. What's exciting about the system is waiting to see what innovations alarm.com will come up with in the future to further leverage our investment in all of these sensors and automation devices. I think we're only seeing the beginning of what is to come with the connected house.

5Better value than ADT
By B. Settleyemer
I've been an ADT customer for 4 years. They hook you with the $99 initial cost and $19 or $29 per month plans. But the price jumps up for everything when you add on more sensors. I ended up paying more than $500 the system because I added 4 window sensors, and a smoke detector. And since they had to monitor more my monitoring price went up to $39 which increased during the 3 year contract period to $45. This December I got a notice they were increasing it to $52.
With that being said; on to the review.
I started doing some shopping online and decided I wanted the Simon XTi system. SafeMart had the lowest price after adding up all the extras that I wanted. The install was easy with the Plug-and-Protect and I'm very pleased with the overall experience with them. I even upgraded my motion sensors to cameras.
Now I have 9 Door and Window Switches, 3 Smoke Detectors, 2 Motion Sensor Cameras, a standard Motion Sensor, and a Glass Breaking Sensor with an external siren. And the monitoring price with SafeMart/LiveWatch is $39.

Also SafeMart/LiveWatch contracts are only 1 year.
